Butter Linguine with Garlic Mushrooms

I love quick pasta dishes. The ones that only require a couple of pots and are ready in 10 minutes.... Its an added treat if that pasta consists of garlicky butter, sesame oil flavoured mushrooms, lots of parsley and cheese!

Puff Pastry Tartlets "Al Freesco"

I know the sunshine has arrived when I feel like making certain foods. Gone are the comfort foods and in come the light delights, graced with colourful vegetables and fresh herbs. Served with salads, relishes and tomatoes picked from the garden.......all of that preferably al fresco. If that's in my back garden or somewhere in a field I don't care as long as it is outside...  The truly summery days are few here in England (most years) so you have to treasure them to the max...
One of these recipes that announces a hot day are these little tartlets which are easily customised to any size and topped with almost anything. Veggie or Meat...
We eat them fresh out of the oven with salad for tea or let them go cold and take them with us to the seaside or on a picnic. I have also served them as really small tartlets at a tea party.

Forest walk, Bluebell carpet and Semolina Dumling Soup made with the kids

The kids were off school this week and I promised Leia she could have her cousin stay for a couple of days. I find that after the first night without or very little sleep the best thing to do is take them for a healthy dose of fresh air!!

I decided to visit a nearby forest. Its a beautiful place. The trees are ancient and this time of the year the ground is covered with bluebells. The girls loved it! I carried Benjamin in a sling, he was mesmerised by the light shining through the tops of the trees. Unfortunately the weather wasn't brilliant and a bowl of soup seemed to be the perfect lunch!

Ten Minute Antipasti & Thyme Pasta

There are just not enough hours in a day and with our baby ruling the roost at the moment it seems there are even less.... This is my favourite "I have 10 minutes to make something to eat" recipe.

I always have all the ingredients at home and the Thyme in the garden or in the freezer. During the summer I frequently cut my herbs that grow in our garden, chop them and keep them in a labelled freezer bags for the winter to come. They taste as fresh as they do when picked from the garden.

Eurovision Song Contest.......and the winner is...

As soon as I found out that cakeyboi theme for this months Treat Petite is Eurovision, I just had to participate. My obvious choice of country is....Austria (the country hosting this years event and the country I was born in)....

There are so many different crescent shaped pastries in Austria. Sweet and savoury, covered with cheese, filled with cheese, filled with nuts, filled with ham, covered with sea salt and cumin,…made out of puff pastry, made out of a yeast dough….
Legend has it that the bakers of Vienna started to bake crescent shaped Kipferln, to celebrate defeating the Turks from invading Austria and as the symbol of the crescent moon was associated with the Turks it seemed suitable….
It is also said that even the croissant has its origins from that time and it was Marie Antoinette daughter of the Austrian empress Maria Theresia who married Louise XVI that introduced the Kipferl to France which led to the croissant.
